Juneteenth – a fusion of 'June' and 'nineteenth' – is an integral part of American history, marking the day when the last enslaved African Americans were informed of their freedom. Despite the Emancipation Proclamation being enacted in 1863, it wasn't until Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, that the last enslaved individuals learned of their freedom. This delay in the delivery of this critical news has shaped Juneteenth into a symbol of total liberation.
Celebrated with parades, festivals, educational events, and more, Juneteenth is a day of reflection and rejoicing, a day to acknowledge the past while embracing the progress made and the journey ahead. Our first event is the Juneteenth Business Expo, a virtual event organized by HeavieTalk Media and TheBlack.Blog. This online expo is dedicated to championing Black businesses, fostering unity, and strengthening economic growth within the Black community. Starting 48 hours prior to June 19th, we will have select products available for the symbolic price of $18.65, reflecting the year of Juneteenth's origin.
Our second celebration will take place at the Homewood-Flossmoor's Juneteenth Festival, hosted by You Matter 2. Join us in person on June 17, 2023, at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Flossmoor, IL. The festival will run from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and you can find us at Booth E34. We're offering a special sale on all our 6oz creams, pricing them at $18.65, in honor of the historic year.
